Avoid comments with unwanted content for wordpress

Views: 948 Last modified: August 02nd, 2011 Comments: 10

This wordpress plugin controls the comments visitors tries to post on your articles, posts, pages or whatever! It works on word recognition.

For example…. You have added the word “viagra” into the database, because you dont want to see any comments which contains this word. Comments with the following words will be rejected:

  • viagra
  • You have viagra ?
  • You have a Xviagrapackage ?
  • Cheap XXviagra!
  • Cheap viagraXX!

As you can see, even if the word is nicely wrapped into a phrase or larger word, it will be rejected.

You can add or delete words from the database by using the special admin panel. After installation you can find this panel under “Settings”. The page is called “Comment content”.

How to install ?

Well, thats quite easy!
Just download this plugin, go to the plugins area within WP admin, choose “Add new”, choose “upload”, choose the zipped package, and choose “install”. Don’t forget to activate the plugin.
That’s all!

Version 1.1:

  • Fixed: issue after deleting words from the database.
  • Fixed: Visitors are able to post normally again.
  • Notice: You do need to deactivate and activate your plugin again because the stored array was messed up!

Version 1.1.2:

  • Fixed: Minor issue fixed in regards to words which contains quotes

Version 1.3.5:

  • Added: You can now control which comment fields must be checked. (Name, Mail, URL, Comment)
  • Added: You will be notified about the word which is on the block list.

    1. Hi Bryan,

Thanks for your donation! Really appreciate it!
If you somehow find bugs in this plugin, please notify me! The same counts for the other plugins!
Thanks and have fun with it!

      Cheers
    2. I tested your new donations button with a small donation and it works fine! ;)

I've got to admit, this plugin does an amazing job of blocking unwanted comments. You can even block entire domain extensions like .ru . In fact, the ability to block terms in the URL makes it really powerful because a spammer most likely won't have another URL without his main spamming term. I used to get a lot of "solar energy" spam but once I added "solar' to the list (and enabled the URL checking) that was the end of it. Add a few more terms like "mortgage" and "credit" and you really knock out a ton of spam. Thanks again! I'll be checking your other plugins, too.
    3. No problem :) I hope it works for you! If you find any bugs or something.... please notify me! I've tested it on several combinations, but you never know!

At first, i didn't have any donate link, but since you are not the first who asked, i created a paypal donation link!

      Cheers
    4. Thank you! That was quick service and the implementation was perfect. I'll let you know how it works in a couple of days. Also, do you have a "donation" link? Thanks again.
    5. Hi Bryan,

      Update is done!
Hope it will help you out!

      Cheers
    6. Yes, sir! That would be fantastic! Thanks for considering it.

      Bryan
    7. Hi Bryan!

Thanks for posting your comment. For as far as i understand, you want this plugin to scan the "name" field and "website" field and the "email" address field as well, along with the actual comment itself ?

      Cheers
    8. This is a cool idea, but it seems as though this plugin will only block a comment if the censored word appears in the main comment field itself. My experience has been that spammers will post short comments (without any censored words) but the real spamming takes place in the Name and Website fields. If this plugin scanned those fields for the censored words, it would really be powerful. For example, I get lots of links from URL like http://make-money-with-affiliate-marketing.com. The ability to block "affiliate" in the link or name field would be really helpful.

Then again maybe it's suppposed to do this, but if so it's not working for me. Great idea, and hope you expand on it. Thanks.
    9. Thanks for creating this plugin, WordPress tries to stop the ugly stuff, but it only puts the comment on hold, and that takes up time trying to approve comments, now, only the good ones will even get written!
